Annika enjoys a good read, occasionally tolerates others, and will show up for her fans if a treat is involved. Annika is a cat—one of the several felines who live at a beloved local bookstore in Enola, Pennsylvania.
The shop partners with Castaway Critters, a local animal rescue that helps find loving families for needy cats.
Go for the books, stay for the belly rubs.
Annika and a few of her friends live at Cupboard Maker Books, where sales associates write novels about the felines who call their independent bookstore home. Annika is the “author” of “The Very, Very Bad Misadventures of Annika the Reluctant Bookstore Cat.”
Annika’s friend Mouse—a cat, to be precise—was born in the bookstore in 2020. His hobbies include climbing and napping. He’s also “authored” three books!
“He is a super chill boy who is happy to get attention from anyone and loves to chase after his crinkly ball toys,” according to the bookstore.
The Cats at Cupboard Maker Books have it good.
The four-legged residents can roam the aisles and strut down the many bookshelf catwalks.
Cupboard Maker Books takes the proper precautions to ensure the safety of its residents from special collars that allow access to different parts of the store and keep the more free-willing cats safely inside. They even take some on special outdoor excursions.
If the cats who live at Cupboard Maker truly do get nine lives, they probably don’t mind spending all of them there.
Welcome a Castaway Critters cat into your home!
Annika, Mouse, and Zak are three of the lucky critters who get to call Cupboard Maker their forever home, but one business can’t tackle a problem that goes far beyond its four walls.
