Why Trust Cats.com
To write this review, I performed thorough brand research on Furry Wonder and tested three of their products with my own cats. My research spanned the brand’s website and social media accounts, as well as unaffiliated review sites and customer critiques.
I personally purchased three Furry Wonder recipes at full retail price and tested them with my three cats: Bagel, Biscuit, and Munchkin. During testing, I evaluated each product for its appearance, palatability, texture, and general appeal. I also analyzed the information on the product labels, including the list of ingredients and guaranteed analysis.
After in-depth research and testing, I rated Furry Wonder in six key categories according to the Cats.com standard.
About Furry Wonder
Furry Wonder is a freeze-dried raw pet food company that offers a limited selection of products for both dogs and cats. This pet food brand is focused on whole-food nutrition for pets, with marketing materials mentioning ethical sourcing and meat-first formulations.
In 2023, Furry Wonder was a Silver Winner in the MUSE Design Awards in the Packaging Design category for animal and pet products. This appears to coincide with Furry Wonder’s entrance into the pet food industry, so the brand is still very new.
Seemingly having been founded in 2023, Furry Wonder has already gone through several changes in recipe formulation and product availability. Communication from the brand suggests these changes were made in an effort to include more local ingredients in their products. Despite the changing recipes, Furry Wonder cat food remains a species-appropriate choice built on a foundation of animal ingredients.
Sourcing and Manufacturing
Furry Wonder is based in Seattle, Washington, and their products are made with US-sourced ingredients. Though Furry Wonder doesn’t own their own manufacturing facilities, their products are made in the United States in Wisconsin. Furry Wonder was originally unclear about the sourcing of their ingredients but now lists the states from which its primary proteins are sourced.
Furry Wonder pet foods are freeze-dried at temperatures between -35°C and -40°C. This process enables the raw ingredients to retain their original appearance and nutritional properties while increasing shelf life. The result is a lightweight, low-moisture product that is designed to be rehydrated before feeding.
Furry Wonder claims to follow nutrition requirements established by numerous international regulators, including the FDA, the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO), the Pet Food Manufacturers Association (PFMA), and the European Pet Food Industry Federation (FEDIAF). The products are also subjected to three-party inspections—pre-production, finished goods, and reserve sample—to ensure quality and safety.
Recall History
Because Furry Wonder appears to be very new to the market, there is limited information available about the brand’s history. I didn’t find any evidence of product recalls. Lack of recalls is always a good thing, but brands without an established history in the industry generally don’t receive a perfect score in this area.
What Kinds Of Cat Food Does Furry Wonder Offer?
Furry Wonder currently only offers freeze-dried raw cat food formulas. Each recipe is formulated to support key aspects of feline health and wellness, such as digestion, immunity, growth, or skin health. The food is available in patty-like “Mighty Nuggets” or smaller “Mighty Bites.”
The four formulas available include:
- Grow & Thrive
- Sensitive Digestion
- Skin & Coat Vitalize
- Immune Boost
Though Furry Wonder lists four formulas on its site, only three were available for purchase at the time of my original review in July of 2023. In October of 2023, communication from the brand announced a further reduction and reformulation of product offerings. The only two formulas currently available are Grow & Thrive and Sensitive Digestion.
All of Furry Wonder’s cat food recipes are formulated with the carnivorous needs of cats in mind. They’re meat-based and grain-free, made with 96% raw meat, offal, and bones. Furry Wonder cat foods offer a 3:1 protein-to-fat ratio and include a blend of common proteins like chicken and salmon with novel additions like rabbit and pigeon.
What Did Our Test Cats Think?
When I originally tested Furry Wonder, only three of the four listed recipes were available. As of November 2023, however, only two are being sold and they have since been reformulated.
A Furry Wonder brand representative said the reformulated products are “conceptually consistent with the original formulas and were developed by our veterinary team to include 96% raw meat, organs, and bones.”
During my initial testing of Furry Wonder, I was impressed by the product and its packaging. The food comes in resealable pouches and the nutritional information is listed in five languages: English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. I found the freeze-dried nuggets and patties easy to crush and rehydrate, while my cats seemed to enjoy the flavor and texture of the food.

What Do Customers Think of Furry Wonder Cat Food?
Given that Furry Wonder is such a new brand, customer reviews are very limited. Furry Wonder does post customer testimonials on their website, but because the brand chooses them, it’s hard to say whether they provide a complete picture of the customer experience. Based on around 100 reviews on Amazon, however, customers seem generally satisfied with the Furry Wonder brand.
Positive Reviews
“My cat loves this and the ingredients are great. I rehydrate it with some watered-down bone broth. It’s less expensive than other similar brands, so I really appreciate being able to feed quality food to my cat for a little bit more affordable price.”
—Sydney, reviewing Furry Wonder Sensitive Digestion, on April 26, 2023
“My kitties love these. The recipe is balanced, so I feed it to them as one of their 2 daily meals. It has ensured they have a beautiful coat and keeps their weight in a nice healthy range. Plus, the size of the bites is easy and convenient to feed.”
—Wang Xiao Liang, reviewing Furry Wonder Sensitive Digestion, on January 10, 2023
Over 60% of Amazon customers who rated Furry Wonder gave it a 5-star review. Customers seem pleased with the quality of the ingredients and their cats generally seem to like the food. Several customers comment that Furry Wonder is less expensive than many brands, making it a cost-effective option for introducing your cat to freeze-dried food.
Negative Reviews
“It’s ok, it definitely did not get my cats as hyped up as other brands did. It’s super powdery and breaks down really easy.”
—Sierra, Furry Wonder Sensitive Digestion, on May 22, 2023
“Two of the cats turned their nose up to it on smell alone. The third cat, who is something of a trash panda, ate a bit but did not finish and never went back for the leftovers, even picking through them when traditional kibble was sprinkled among them.”
—Rodney, Furry Wonder Sensitive Digestion, on April 15, 2023
Negative comments about Furry Wonder pet food largely center around cat refusal and issues with the smell or texture. Some products simply won’t be a hit with every cat. A few customers whose cats refused the food noted that their cats accepted it as a treat or when rehydrated with broth rather than water. Several customers who complained about the product’s powdery texture appear to have fed it to their cats dry.
How Much Does Furry Wonder Cat Food Cost?
All Furry Wonder recipes are priced the same. Amazon.com sells the food for about $35 per 16-ounce bag (about $2.19/ounce), while the food costs about $28 (about $1.75/ounce) on Furry Wonder’s website. You can save an additional 6% with Furry Wonder’s Autoship.
Furry Wonder is notably less expensive than other freeze-dried brands like Stella & Chewy’s and Primal. Averaging around 120 calories per ounce, Furry Wonder cat food is fairly calorie-dense. Feeding a 10-pound cat Furry Wonder freeze-dried raw food will cost about $3.00 per day.
Where is Furry Wonder Cat Food Sold?
Furry Wonder appears to be sold only online. You can purchase Furry Wonder on the brand’s website and receive free shipping throughout the United States except to Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. Furry Wonder aims to ship orders quickly, stating that most customers receive their orders within 3–5 business days.
You can also purchase some Furry Wonder cat food recipes on Amazon. Availability may change, however, given the recent reformulation.
Is the food really manufactured in the USA? That information is not available on the Furry Wonder website so I’m curious as to where it was obtained from. Also are the meat and fish ingredients really sourced in the USA or elsewhere?
“The food is made with human-grade ingredients sourced in the USA.” “made with” could be a selection of the ingredients being sourced in the USA, not all of them. It’s a bit of a puzzle and I’m not sure how ethical this food really is. I’m a UK cat parent and I try to avoid products where there isn’t a very transparent supply chain or company information available. This product seems to be a bit too good to be true if the constituent analysis is to be believed. Thanks
Hi there! Good question. I’ll reach out to Furry Wonder and see if I can learn more.
Appreciated this article. HOWEVER, when you look up their “supposed” address in Seattle it is a large office building of mostly attorneys and consultants. Their name doesn’t come up in the directory. It would be great to know exactly where this is manufactured and if they are really based in the U.S. Thank you.
Hi Carlene, thank you for the comment. From Furry Wonder: “Our business was founded in the US with the mission of offering the finest freeze-dried products to furry babies around the globe. We have learned how important it is to provide customers with as much information as possible as we grow in the industry. As a result, when we recently updated the recipes, we also upgraded the packaging. We added a window to highlight the products within and added the manufacturing information, “sourced and crafted in USA.” Our manufacturing located in Wisconsin, is a USDA audited and third-party audited to cGMP 21 CFR 111.” This is the best I can offer at this point—will keep seeking more information!
Thank you Mallory!
Would it be possible for you to either get a typical analysis of their food from Furry Wonder, or do a lab analysis yourself? I’m curious about the calcium and especially the phosphorus contents of their food, since freeze dried foods tend to have relatively higher phosphorus content. Like the previous commenter, I’m also wondering if their food is too good to be true, given the ingredients and the complete lack of additional information on their website (they don’t even have a phone number in their contact information).
Hi Amit, thanks for bringing this up. We will consider it—those are all excellent questions about this brand.
Thanks for responding! It would be great if you could do an independent analysis of their food, since we’d have confirmation one way or another about how truthful they’re being about their ingredients. I’m looking for freeze dried/raw options for my cat and this is one of the more affordable ones-and that combined with the opaqueness of their website is what makes me a bit suspicious.
