About Go-Cat
Nestle bought the British cat food Go-Cat in 1985. Based on the information we found, Go-Cat was previously known as Friskies Go-Cat in the 1990s. It has been considered to be similar to Meow Mix in the United States.
Nestle-Purina Petcare (or simply Purina) is the second-largest global producer of pet food in the world.
Purina Petcare’s world hub is in Missouri in the United States. The company has invested heavily in nutrition research and development with nutritionists, veterinarians, behaviorists, immunologists, chemists, molecular biologists, food scientists, palatability experts, and specialists in genomics and bioinformatics. You can learn more about the Purina Institute and their research into pet foods here.
Sourcing and Manufacturing
Nestle-Purina has multiple factories in the UK. We couldn’t identify which facility makes Go-Cat but Purina does make their own foods.
We did find a useful page on the Purina UK web site which answers many questions about ingredients, sustainability, and how the food is made.
Purina has a good record for quality control. The company may carry out as many as 1400 tests and checks in one day, at one site, to ensure the safety of their foods.
Has Go-Cat Cat Food Been Recalled?
Searching the UK government’s Food Standards Agency’s web site for recalls yielded no returns for Go-Cat recalls. However, Go-Cat has been around for several decades and Purina has owned the company for a long time. We can’t say with certainty that the brand has never had a recall in Great Britain.
We didn’t find any recalls for Go-Cat in Europe but they might not show up in an English language Google search.

Positive Reviews
I ordered these biscuits in September, and estimated they would last until Christmas. It’s now March, and there’s still plenty left. Some people may suggest I should have purchased fewer biscuits, or, indeed, more cats. Those people would probably be right.
However, even lasting twice as long as I expected, and still having around a third of a bag left, they’re still fresh, and the cat is still happy to eat them. The only downside is I had to answer the missus demanding to know where I intend to keep such a large amount of cat food. I explained that eventually, it would all be stored inside the cat, but I’m unsure how convincing she found this argument. – by Thomas W. reviewing Go-Cat Adult Dry Cat Food Chicken and Duck 10kg on 14 March 2020
Of all the feline dry foods, this is #Himself’s “Go to”, “Number 1”, Safe & dependable option & as only a small part of his varied diet, it’s even a bit of a treat for him.
Erso they also serve as a very handy enticement to get him back in to the cottage, from his many adventures, by simply rattling the “Biscuits” in their container, tambourine stylie!
Great price too, (£15.37 for 10 kg) with an additional 10% discount on top of #AuntieAmazon’s 15% discount for #SubbySave. #HappyGerald 🙂 – by Blue reviewing Go-Cat Adult Tuna, Herring & Veg Dry Cat Food 10kg on 8 April 2019
Negative Reviews
Ok. My cat developed a problem with her thyroid. I took her to the vet and she asked what I fed her. I said Go-Cat. Expecting the vet to be pleased. She just looked at me like I should know better. And proceeded to tell me how bad Go-Cat is. And that it causes problems. Now to know the food I was told by the adverts was GOOD for my cat, could possibly have helped cause her health problems shocked me to the core. All the adverts say it’s good. But it’s junk. My vet said get Go-Cat then a better one and look at the ingredients.
You will see cereal. Except with the good food it’s lower down the list, and Go-Cat it’s the top of the list! I did look and she was right! The more expensive food had less cereal and more meat. What shocked me even more was Go-Cat is owned by Purina. Who also sell the other better quality, more expensive food. I said to my vet, but all the adverts say it’s good. I told a friend. Who bluntly told me it’s marketing, of course they do! I felt so guilty and gullible. I had believed all the adverts I was giving a good diet to my cats. I would never have touched this if I knew the truth. Trying to put this in layman’s terms; that is is probably the equivalent to a take away everyday! This food helped, I am convinced to make my cat unwell.
Sadly she is now dead. ( NOT to do with this issue) I will not touch it with a barge pole. I buy the more expensive and much healthier Purina One. But at the back of my mind I now question whether it was her diet that helped make her sick. I make no medical claims at all. And I do not state categorically the Go-Cat was responsible for my cats illness or health issues. And have only said what the vet told me. Go-Cat is not recommended by vets for cats. It is to high in cereal and not good for them.
But needless to say, as I said. I no longer buy it for my other cat. And I will never buy it again. The reason I am doing this review is to help others, who love their cats. I am so shocked a product so unhealthy and high in cereal can be advertised as good for them. When vets say otherwise. How can that even be allowed? – by The Forest Princess reviewing Go-Cat Adult Dry Cat Food Chicken and Duck 10kg on 22 November 2019
I gradually changed over from a higher priced dry cat food to Go-Cat based on the positive reviews and I really wish I hadn’t. My poor cat has never stopped being sick since he went 100% Go-Cat. Half of the food he eats comes back undigested which is obviously unacceptable. But the smell from the litter box is absolutely vile! I cannot stand the hideous stench from his poop which must be removed immediately and STILL I have to spray the whole HOUSE with odour neutralizer. I will not be foolish enough to buy cheap rubbish again for my indoor cat, the £40 I saved buying this @#*% was not worth it for him or for me. Save yourself some trouble and room in your dustbin, love your cat and don’t buy this #*@%. – by TooTsRamBLe reviewing Go-Cat Adult Dry Cat Food Chicken and Duck 10kg on 11 August 2020

We think that Purina has good quality control measures at their pet food factories. Their veterinary nutritionists are some of the best in the pet food industry.
