Why Trust Cats.com

Before writing this review, I spent several hours researching the OrgaNOMics brand and reading customer reviews. I contacted the brand with a few specific questions as well. Finally, I ordered three recipes to test at home with my own cats, Munchkin and Biscuit.

The products featured in this review were purchased at full retail price and evaluated without direct input from the manufacturer. During the testing process, I made observations about each product’s formulation, packaging, texture, consistency, and appearance. My cats offered their personal opinions on flavor and overall appeal.

About OrgaNOMics

OrgaNOMics was founded in 2022 by Callie Sher while serving as president of her family business, Nutripack, LLC. Prior to her presidency at Nutripack, LLC, Sher worked as a quality engineer at an international component manufacturing firm. In her new role as president, Sher oversees the development and manufacture of several pet food brands.

Headquartered in Markham, Illinois, OrgaNOMics Pet Food is one of Sher’s own creations. Sher is a marathon runner and health enthusiast at heart. When asked what inspired her to create OrgaNOMics, she said, “I wanted to keep my dog, Lilly, running alongside me as long as I could.”

OrgaNOMics is a pet food brand built on a whole-food nutritional philosophy. Every recipe features high-quality animal proteins, nutrient-dense superfoods, essential amino acids, and natural prebiotics to support digestive health. Though OrgaNOMics product selection is limited, each recipe is developed with intention and products are held to high standards for quality, safety, and nutritional value.

Sourcing and Manufacturing

OrgaNOMics is a family-owned and woman-run pet food company in the United States. All recipes are formulated by in-house nutritionists and they are produced in company-owned manufacturing facilities.

The ingredients OrgaNOMics uses in their pet food are sourced from small farms and local producers as much as possible—including some within 50 miles of the Illinois manufacturing plant. The company doesn’t provide specifics, however, about ingredient sourcing or manufacturing practices, and there is no FAQ section on the website to refer to.

Recall History

The OrgaNOMics brand is only a few years old and doesn’t appear to have had any products recalled. Nutripack, LLC, however, doesn’t have a spotless record.

In 2017, dog owners filed a $5 million lawsuit against Nutripack, LLC, after five dogs became seriously ill. The FDA inspected Nutripack’s Markham, Illinois, plant and discovered the presence of the euthanasia drug pentobarbital in cans of Evanger’s Dog and Cat Food that were produced in the facility.

What Kinds of Cat Food Does OrgaNOMics Offer?

OrgaNOMics is a wet food-only brand for both cats and dogs. The company offers a limited selection of wet foods packaged in BPA-free cans and sold by the case. Aside from one single-protein recipe, all Organomics cat foods are made with multiple proteins including chicken, turkey, duck, salmon, beef, pork, and lamb.

Here are the cat foods OrgaNOMics has to offer:

  • Chicken Dinner for Cats
  • Lamb and Beef Dinner for Cats
  • Beef and Pork Dinner for Cats
  • Salmon and Duck Dinner for Cats
  • Turkey, Duck & Chicken Dinner for Cats

Muscle meat from meat, poultry, or fish is the first ingredient in every OrgaNOMics recipe. Most formulas also contain organic eggs and unspecified liver as supplemental sources of protein. All wet food recipes also contain organic peas, which might contribute some plant-based protein.

Though OrgaNOMics cat foods don’t appear to contain any major red flag ingredients, it’s worth mentioning all cat food products contain the word “dinner” in the product name. According to the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO), pet food product labeled “dinner” need only contain a minimum of 25% of the named ingredient by weight, excluding water (or at least 10% of the total weight including water). For multi-protein recipes, the 25% minimum applies to the combination of the named ingredients.

What Did Our Test Cats Think?

OrgaNOMics Cat Food

Kate Barrington / Cats.com

To test OrgaNOMics cat food, I ordered three recipes: Chicken Dinner, Lamb & Beef Dinner, and Salmon & Duck Dinner. My cats heartily enjoyed the first two but were a little less interested in the salmon recipe.

I found all three products to be very high in moisture with a soft, finely minced texture. Even though the food is described as a pate, it’s not the dry, almost gummy texture you get with some brands. I would imagine these foods offer a suitable option for cats that can only eat soft foods.

#1 OrgaNOMics Chicken Dinner Grain-Free Pate Wet Cat Food

Kate Barrington / Cats.com

The only single-protein cat food OrgaNOMics has to offer, this recipe features chicken muscle meat as the primary ingredient. It’s worth noting, however, that the source of liver in any OrgaNOMics product isn’t specified, so it might come from a different animal (be cautious if your cat has food allergies or sensitivities).

This recipe is packed with protein and moisture. Measured as dry matter, the protein content is 50% and the estimated dry matter carbohydrate content is very low. I’m not a fan of peas as a main ingredient (they’re tough for some cats to digest and contain anti-nutrients) and would prefer animal-sourced fats over coconut oil and vegetable oil.

Overall, however, this recipe looks pretty good on paper. My cat seemed to really enjoy the flavor and I liked that the finely minced texture made it easy to serve.

#2 OrgaNOMics Lamb & Beef Dinner Grain-Free Pate Wet Cat Food

OrgaNOMics Lamb & Beef Dinner Grain-Free Pate Wet Cat Food

Kate Barrington / Cats.com

One of OrgaNOMics multi-protein formulas, this recipe appears to be made with the same base mixture as the first—just the proteins have been swapped out. The guaranteed analysis values and calorie content are the same.

This recipe features muscle meat from lamb and beef as the primary ingredients. Based on the inclusion of “Dinner” in the product name, these two ingredients must account for a minimum of 25% the total weight of the recipe, excluding water—10% of the total with water added.

Of the three recipes I tested with my cats, this was their favorite. It seems to be hit-or-miss with other cats, however, based on customer reviews.

#3 OrgaNOMics Salmon & Duck Dinner Grain-Free Pate Wet Cat Food

Kate Barrington / Cats.com

Salmon and duck are the main ingredients in this recipe, contributing to a dry matter protein content of 50%. Again, this recipe is high in moisture and low in carbohydrates. With the exception of the liver, I like that most of the supplemental ingredients are organic.

The complaints I have about this recipe are the same as the others, regarding the peas and plant oils. Additionally, my cats seemed to find this flavor less appealing than the other two.

What Do Customers Think of OrgaNOMics Cat Food?

Online reviews for OrgaNOMics products are sparse—there are none on the brand’s website. I tried submitting a 3-star review for one product and it appeared on the site immediately. This leads me to believe that OrgaNOMics doesn’t have reviews blocked, just that the majority of customers likely buy the products from other online retailers.

Overall, ratings for OrgaNOMics products hit both ends of the spectrum. Customers tend to be either highly satisfied or very disappointed with the products.

Positive Reviews

Satisfied customers report that their cats seem to love the flavor—particularly the Lamb & Beef Dinner. Some customers who left positive ratings also commented that they thought the ingredients were healthy and of high quality.

“My cat loves it very much. She has been gaining weight better. Now she is happier and more energetic.”—Christine reviewing OrgaNOMics Salmon & Duck Dinner on Chewy, November 30, 2023

“My cat loves the lamb & beef. I have to give it to her a little at a time so she doesn’t overeat. The ingredients are simple and it seems clean.”—Leigh reviewing OrgaNOMics Lamb & Beef Dinner on Chewy, June 17, 2024

Negative Reviews

As is true for any cat food product, many dissatisfied customers gave OrgaNOMics a negative rating because their cat(s) simply didn’t like it. Outside of preferences, a few negative reviews mention the inclusion of peas in the food. Others have mentioned that their order arrived with damaged cans, but this is likely an issue with the supplier rather than the brand.

“As I start to move away from all poultry/bird products due to allergies/sensitivities, I’ve been exploring new brands with either beef or lamb as the main protein. Both cats loathe this food. Not sure if it’s the texture, smell, or flavor they don’t like.”—Diana reviewing OrgaNOMics Lamb & Beef Dinner on Chewy, August 18, 2024

“Out of the case of 24 only one or two was not smashed. Has never happened before.”—Debra reviewing OrgaNOMics Salmon & Duck Dinner on Chewy, May 5, 2024

How Much Does OrgaNOMics Cat Food Cost?

Compared to many cat food brands that offer products made with organic ingredients, OrgaNOMics is very economically priced. It appears that all the recipes use the same base formula with the proteins just swapped around, so that likely helps keep the manufacturer’s costs down.

All OrgaNOMics wet cat food products cost between $0.34 and $0.37 per ounce. The Lamb & Beef dinner is the cheapest, followed by Beef & Pork dinner with the last two recipes at the highest price point. The estimated daily cost to feed a 10-pound cat OrgaNOMics wet cat food is between $2.72 and $2.96. This puts it in a similar price range to popular brands like Nulo and Purina ONE.

Where Is OrgaNOMics Cat Food Sold?

You can purchase the full line of OrgaNOMics cat food products directly from the manufacturer or from major online retailers like Chewy.com and Amazon.com. If you subscribe to AutoShip with any of these three, you’ll receive a 5% discount on your order.

OrgaNOMics cat food is also sold by some small and independent retailers like Pet Supplies Plus as well as some regional retail chains like Fleet Farm, Foodtown, and Ingles. You can find links to retailers that sell OrgaNOMics products on the brand’s website.

Overall, Is OrgaNOMics a Good Choice?

If you’re looking for a cost-effective wet cat food made with decent ingredients, OrgaNOMics could be a good option. It’s a bit of a risk since it seems unpredictable whether cats will love or hate the food, but it might be worth it if you can try a few cans instead of commiting to a whole case.

My main concern with OrgaNOMics is the lack of clarity about ingredient sourcing, manufacturing methods, and quality control. This specific brand hasn’t been recalled but Nutripack, LLC has been the subject of some serious concerns in the past. In my opinion, one of the brands listed below would be a safer choice within a similar price range.
