Skoon litter is an all-natural litter made of diatom pebbles that are manufactured using a low heat-thermal activation process. The porous pebbles and their manufacturing method create a high rate of absorbency along with being virtually dust-free and hypoallergenic.
The size of the pebbles almost completely eliminate tracking outside of the litter box, and the non-clumping formula reduces the amount of scooping that needs to be done compared to clumping litters.

Brand Overview
Skoon is a more unique and unusual litter compared to most litters on the market. Its diatom pebbles are made from diatomite boulders, which after they are mined, are broken down into pebble-sized pieces. During the manufacturing process, the dust is removed and fragrances are added to the scented litter varieties.
The end result is a highly absorbent formula that is not only hypoallergenic, but is also biodegradable, organic, and helps to alleviate unwanted odors.
As for its benefits for cats, the pebbles may be larger than more traditional clay litters, but the pebbles themselves aren’t sharp or jagged and won’t be uncomfortable on your kitty’s paws. Also, the larger sized pebbles all but eliminate tracking and scattering outside of the litter box.

What Kinds Of Litter Does The Brand Offer?
Skoon litter offers three varieties for their original pebble formula – unscented, lavender-scented and lemon-scented. All three of these varieties are made using the same ingredients and manufacturing process, with the exception of the lavender and lemon formulas that contain added fragrances for additional odor control. Also, all three of these formulas are non-clumping litters.
All three Skoon cat litter formulas offer the following benefits:
- Made from all-natural ingredients
- Dust-free formula
- Hypoallergenic
- Biodegradable
- Non-clumping
This litter is different than many other litters on the market due to its ingredients and manufacturing process, and its uniqueness contributes to its outstanding absorbency, as well as its eco-friendly approach.
One of the upsides to Skoon is that since it’s very absorbent and non-clumping, it reduces the amount of time and effort you have to spend scooping out your litter box. Also, since the pebbles are so absorbent, you won’t get a lot of mushy or sludgy areas at the bottom of the box. However, due to its non-clumping formula, Skoon isn’t the best when it comes to feces. It’s great at absorbing urine and containing the urine odors, but not so great with fecal matter.
Also, the cost of Skoon is a bit higher than other available litters, but it does last for a long time before having to be dumped out altogether.
Skoon also offers a fine grain formula, but this review focused on the original pebble varieties.

Positive Reviews
“I have 9 cats. 8 of them like clay and Skoon. 1 loves Skoon only. He wasn’t using any of the 13 litter boxes I have placed strategically around the house. He’s a special needs kitty that can’t clean his paws well. Thank god I found this. The big chunks are soft and don’t get stuck in his paws. We’re both much happier. My other cats like it too.” –DoeCdo, reviewing Skoon Unscented Cat Litter
“I like the absorption of this cat litter and the fact that it also absorbs the smell for multi-cat households. I gave 4 stars for easy to clean because it sometimes gets kind of gross at the bottom of the cat bin if you don’t remember to mix the litter daily.” –Jody reviewing Skoon Lavender-Scented Cat Litter
“So it is one of those things where the product does what it says it does, but if the cat doesn’t like the product and doesn’t really take to it, what do you do? You don’t continue to use it, so I won’t bash the product, but I’ll warn you that if your cat is finicky don’t switch to this litter.” –Malcolm reviewing Skoon Lemon-Scented Cat Litter
Negative Reviews
“It’s not the worst litter I have tried, but not the best either. It has less dust than regular litter and seems to last longer. I was mostly disappointed about odor control, but it may just be my situation. Both of my cats hop in the box and squat so there is one giant wet spot. The instructions say to stir the litter for best odor control, and I confess I may not have done this as often as I should have, but I still don’t think it would help given the way my cats use the box.” –T2para, reviewing Skoon Unscented Cat Litter
“I’ve been using the original unscented litter for over a year. Thought I’d try the scented. Not a fan. As it gets used it starts to smell like any other scented clay litter. And it has a pinkish color to it accompanied by dust of the same color.” –Kelly reviewing Skoon Lavender-Scented Cat Litter
“I was excited to get the order of Skoon because it was so light and easy to carry. Learned that although it was light, it was not a hit with my cat. I ended up having to discard half the litter box contents and adding her regular litter. I’m back to my heavyweight litter, but at least one of us is happy!” –DeeDee reviewing Skoon Lemon-Scented Cat Litter
How Much Does Skoon Cat Litter Cost?
Skoon Cat Litter May seem a little more expensive than many other litters out there, but it’s also long-lasting, and its hypoallergenic and environmentally friendly formula make it worth the extra cost.
All of the Skoon formulas that we reviewed cost the same at $3.49 per pound. It may seem a little pricey compared to most traditional litters, but Skoon is long-lasting, highly absorbent, and environmentally friendly.
Overall, Is Skoon Cat Litter A Good Choice?
We have a lot of positive things to say about all three varieties of Skoon that we reviewed. Ultimately, all of the varieties did very well with only a few downsides. And, the downsides really depend on your personal preferences.
Between the three Skoon varieties, the only difference was with the scents. Whether it’s the unscented, lavender-scented or lemon-scented, they all have the same properties as far as absorbency, scoopability and lack of dust.
That being said, be mindful of what scents might work best for you and your cats, how much you want to spend on your litter, and how important the environment is to you.
Where Is Skoon Litter Sold?
Skoon Litter is primarily sold online through Chewy and Amazon, but is also available to purchase from other retailers.
Skoon litter has literally changed my life! It doesn’t track, which is a huge plus. It doesn’t stick to my long-haired cat. As long as you stir it every day it absorbs urine very well, and solid waste is easy to scoop out. I love not having to scoop out bags of gross cat pee! Paired with easy to clean stainless steel litter boxes, I’ve finally found a winning combination!
